Loraine Amanda Gerke was born on February 18, 1930, in Newell, Iowa, to Henry and Irene (Ehlers) Gerke. Baptized on March 9, 1930, at Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed there on April 2, 1944, as well, she, also, married Darvin Harth, of Alta, at the same church on December 7, 1952. Subsequently, they had two daughters, Janelle and Jerri.
Loraine and Darvin lived on a farm west of Albert City before moving to Alta in September of 1954. A stay at home mother, she, did, however, help her husband with his shoe repair business. In addition, she enjoyed reading and going to school sporting events and programs.
After moving to Alta, the family joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she became a member of both the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (L.W.M.L.) and the Ladies Aid Society, taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir.
Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Irene Gerke; her husband, Darvin; her parents-in-law, Alfred and Marie Harth; her sister and brother-in-law, Neoma and Eldo Bartels; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Boyle.
She is survived by her daughters, Janelle (Rick) Hopkins, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jerri (Russell) Boyle, of Alta, Iowa; her grandsons, Adam Harth, of Merrill, Iowa, Brian Hopkins, of Independence, Missouri, and Jon Boyle of Casselton, North Dakota; her great-grandsons, Loggan Norwood, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Austin and Skyler Harth, both of Newell, Iowa; and her sister and brother-in-law, Lorna (Willis) Lussman, of Storm Lake, Iowa, as well as by many other extended family members and friends. The family would like to thank Eileen Newkirk who has been a very good friend for many years and was always there for Loraine.
Loraine A. Harth, age 85, of Alta, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society of Newell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Alta with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
