Ronald L. Craig, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at his daughter's home in Fremont, Nebraska.

Ronald Lee Craig, a son of Jonathon Irvin and Gertrude Vivian (Murray) Craig, was born on February 28, 1933, in Shenandoah, Iowa. Growing up, he attended and then graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1952.

Next, Ron enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and later served in the United States Army. During his military career, he spent five years in Korea, two years in Vietnam, four years in Germany, and one assignment in Hawaii, earning twenty military ribbons, both meritorious and combat awards, including two Army Commendations and a Bronze Star. From 1962 to 1968, Ron worked as the United States Army Recruiting Sergeant and Station Commander at the Storm Lake Recruiting Office. He retired from the United States Army in 1973.

On June 27, 1954, Ron married Virginia Lea Dykes. Subsequently, they were blessed with five children: David Alan, Douglas Lee, Daniel Scott, James Eric, and Juli Diane. Virginia passed away on March 22, 1996.

After retiring from the military, Ron worked as a car salesman at Rasmussen Ford in Storm Lake from 1973 to 1986 and then from 1986 to 1997 in Loveland, Colorado. After retiring completely in 1997, he returned to Storm Lake.

On June 15, 2002, Ron married Garnet June Adams. They lived in Newell for several years before making their home in Texas.

A member of the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake where he was baptized, Ron, also, joined the Amvets, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, the Kiwanis, the Elks, and the V.F.W., becoming a lifetime member.

In his spare time, Ron enjoyed all sports especially hunting and golfing. He valued his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Garnet Adams Craig, of Bridge City, Texas; his children: David Alan (Sang) Craig, of Fremont, Nebraska, Douglas Lee (Anya) Craig, of Bluffton, South Carolina, Daniel Scott (Tammi) Craig, of Fremont, Nebraska, James Eric (Tina) Craig, of Cornelia, Georgia, and Juli Diane Ramsey, of Fremont, Nebraska; seventeen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Vonda Craig, of Canon City, Colorado; and a son-in-law, Bart Ramsey, of Fremont, Nebraska; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Jonathon and Gertrude Craig; his first wife, Virginia Craig; a grandson, Adam Craig; and two brothers: John C. Clark and Erwin LaVelle Craig.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will take place in the Storm Lake Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
