Josephine Crilly, age 101, of Newell, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Josephine Johnson, a daughter of Orville and Lois (Barnes) Johnson, was born on May 5, 1914, in Sherburn, Minnesota. Josephine attended school in Newell, graduating from Newell Community School in 1930. She, then, continued her education at the business school in Des Moines, Iowa.

In 1926, Josephine joined the First Congregational Church in Newell where she remained a lifelong member, becoming involved with many offices and organizations within the church.

On December 31, 1936, Josephine married Edgar Crilly at the First Congregational Church parsonage in Newell. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, Sharel and William.

An avid reader, Josephine, also, enjoyed playing cards. Most of all, however, she cherished time spent with family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sharel Jorgensen, of Osage, Iowa, and William (Lana) Crilly, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jeff Jorgensen, Julie (Scott) Jorgensen Swanson, Ken Crilly, Diane (LeRoy) Crilly Wolfe, Jon (Karen A.) Crilly, and Karen L. Crilly (partner, Dr. Kirstin Hugdahl); and her great-grandchildren: Katelynn (Brandon) Marxen, Patrick Wolfe, Payton Crilly, and Jenna and Joel Swanson; as well as extended family members and friends.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar; and three brothers: Russell, Maurice, and Gale Johnson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, July 31, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
