Charles (Chuck) R. Christenson
December 23, 1932 - July 6, 2015

Charles Richard “Chuck” Christenson, the only son of Lester and Eleanor Lavina (Short) Christenson, was born on December 23, 1932, on a farm north of Laurens, Iowa. In 1936, the family moved to Marathon.

Baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Marathon, Chuck attended school in Marathon and Lincoln Lee Township. In 1950, he graduated from Marathon Consolidated School. While a senior he was offered a farm, which he rented until 1953. Then, he was drafted into the United States Army. Discharged in 1955, he returned to Marathon and farmed for forty-two years.

On January 25, 1953, he married Marilyn Jean Orcutt in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Active in their church and Eastern Star, they had three girls: Cynthia Jane, Deborah Suzanne, and Nancy Jo. Unfortunately, Marilyn died of cancer in 1968. On June 1, 1969, Charles married Barbara Sue Orcutt in Blencoe, Iowa. Subsequently, they had two girls, Sara Kay and Amy Ruth.

For sixteen years, Chuck and Barb wintered in Arizona. In 2006, they moved off the farm to Aurelia where they, just this year, celebrated forty-six years of marriage.

Proud of his family and his farming vocation, Chuck belonged to the Universal Masonic Lodge #587 of Marathon and to the Eastern Star for fifty-eight years. In addition, he had served both as a Past Master and as a Past Patron. He enjoyed playing cards, watching sporting events, golfing, and reading.

Charles died on Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

Preceding Charles in death were his parents, his wife Marilyn, one sister, Mary and her husband Merle Waggie, and one son-in-law, Russel Pischel.

Charles’ life is celebrated by his wife, Barbara, of Aurelia; his daughters: Cindy, and her husband, Earl Baier, of Des Moines, Iowa, Deborah Pischel, of Machesney Park, Illinois, Nancy, and her husband, Criss Wood, of Yuma, Arizona, Sara, and her husband, James Evans, of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Amy Christenson, of Sioux City, Iowa; his grandchildren: Carl, Wesley, Valerie, Ali, Marilyn, Krista, Charlie, Hayden, and Henry; his great-grandchildren: Seth, Charlie, Tennessee, Jacob, Kash, Cindy, Baylee, Alyssa, Seth, Alyvia, and Amiyah; his sister, Fran, and her husband, Ralph Hazen, of Mesa, Arizona; and his sisters-in-law: Donna Yeager, of Spencer, Iowa, Janice Reck, of Enterprise, Alabama, and Pat, and her husband, Alan Jaycox, of Denison, Iowa; as well as by his nieces, nephews, and many friends.
