Arnold "Arnie" Otto
May 11, 1923 - June 16, 2015Arnold “Arnie” Otto, age 92, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Friday, June 12, 2015, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.
Arnold Roy Otto, a son of Henry H. and Anna Marie (Miller) Otto, was born on May 11, 1923, in Diamond Township, Cherokee County, Iowa.
Baptized at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa, on May 14, 1923, and confirmed there in 1937, Arnie attended St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School in Hanover as well.
On April 23, 1944, Arnie married Norma Lullmann at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, Judith Ann and Garland Arnold.
Arnie farmed the home place by Aurelia for three years. He, then, farmed in the Storm Lake and Albert City areas until 1967. Next, he moved to Albert City where he started working for Superior Manufacturing, a job he held for several years. Afterwards, he worked for Metal Master Manufacturing until he retired in 1988.
Arnie was currently a member at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake.
In his spare time, Arnie enjoyed woodworking, caring for his yard, and landscaping. He, faithfully, raised and lowered the flag daily. Moreover, he loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed trips with Norma. They felt blessed to spend seventy-one years together.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Norma Otto, of Albert City, Iowa; his children, Judith Ann (George) Behler, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Garland Arnold (Sandra) Otto, of Albert City, Iowa; his grandchildren: Kimberly (Mike) Edwards, of Louisville, Kentucky, Branden (Kari) Otto, of Badger, Iowa, and Heather (Chuck) Martin, of Storm Lake, Iowa; twelve great grandchildren; his sister, LaVone Sievers, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and his sisters-in-law, Edna Rebhuhn, of Albert City, Iowa, and Lorraine Otto, of Alta, Iowa; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Milton, Vernon, and Marvin Otto; his sisters, Erna Sievers and Dorothy Winterhof.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 15, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
