Robert Knudtson Samuelson
May 3, 1927 - May 11, 2015

Robert Knudtson Samuelson, a son of Oliver and Joran (Knudtson) Samuelson, was born on May 3, 1927, in Royal, Iowa. He spent his childhood in Linn Grove, Iowa, where he received his education.

Bob married Lois Johnson on November 19, 1944, in Rembrandt, Iowa. In July of 1945, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in May of 1946. Then, he returned to northwest Iowa. After serving briefly with the Estherville Police Department in the late 1950s, he moved to Sutherland in 1962. For forty-five years, Bob drove truck before retiring in 1989.

Bob enjoyed woodworking, his fishing trips to Canada, and music, which was a big part of his life. A member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, he, also, actively participated with the Sutherland American Legion and the Ruritan.

Bob passed away at his home in Sutherland, Iowa, on Monday, May 11, 2015, at the age of eighty-eight. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois, on May 24, 2006; a sister, Mary Lee Samuelson, and a brother-in-law, Troy Clapp.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Rennae (Roger) Smith, of Meriden, Iowa, Kay Lynn (Michael) Westvold, of Everett, Washington, Steven (Shelley) Samuelson, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Lezlie Jo Samuelson, of Cherokee, Iowa; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Clapp, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a special friend, Carolyn Grothe, of Sutherland; along with other relatives and many friends.

SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 15th at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland with Pastor Robin Thomas officiating. A military flag presentation will be conducted by the American Legion Post #152 of Sutherland following the services at the church. A lunch and time of fellowship will follow the services at the church.

VISITATION: The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services in the basement of the church.

MUSIC: "Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone" "In the Garden" By Greta Petersen; "Lord, You Have Come To the Lakeshore" By the Congregation

ORGANIST: Sandy Stephenson

INTERMENT: Lone Tree Cemetery, Sioux Rapids, Iowa, 1:30 P.M., Friday, May 15, 2015, following the lunch.
