Edward “Buster” Phipps
May 25, 1930 - May 9, 2015

Edward Harold 'Buster' Phipps, age 84, died on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Edward was born on May 25, 1930, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, to Ernest F. and Ruth H. (Weaver) Phipps. Raised on a farm close to Sioux Rapids, he received his education from the Sioux Rapids Community School District, graduating from high school in 1950. Next, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1950 to 1954 while stationed on Guam and the Philippine Islands where he operated heavy construction equipment.

After his discharge from the Navy, Edward farmed right across the road from where he was raised. On January 17, 1955, he married Lucille Lena Weisbrod. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a son, Franklin, and a daughter, Sheila. Edward enjoyed making radio controlled model airplanes and flying them at special meets and for his own recreational pleasure. Lucille died in 1987.

After Edward retired from farming in 1988, he and his special friend, Geneva Grey, enjoyed living in the country and doing extensive camping and traveling. After Geneva died in 2005, Edward moved to Spencer, Iowa, where he was baptized into the Faith Pentecostal Church. In 2012, he moved to the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa, where he died from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Frank (Debbie) Phipps, of Everly; a daughter, Sheila Phipps, of Mankato, Minnesota; a brother, Clifford Dale (Martha) Phipps, of Spirit Lake; a sister, Avis Davis, of Spirit Lake; a granddaughter, Michelle (Shaun) Olson, of Spencer; three great granddaughters, Chelsea Sheley, of Spencer, and Emma and Mia Olson, also of Spencer; a nephew, Dan (Deborah) Davis, of Spirit Lake, and a great nephew, Mike Davis, and his fiancée, Tanya Olsen; along with other relatives and friends.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, an infant sister, two nieces, Teresa Davis and Denise Phillips, and a special friend, Geneva Grey.

SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Faith Pentecostal Church in Spencer with Pastors Brad Wallace and Pastor Dale Hodges officiating.

VISITATION: One hour prior to the service at the church.

MUSIC: Pianist - Abigail Wallace, Violinist - Andrew Wallace; Congregational Hymns: “Amazing Grace,” “In the Garden.”

INTERMENT: 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, Lone Tree Cemetery, Sioux Rapids, Iowa.
Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Graeber-Rowe Post #394 of Sioux Rapids
