Dorothy Wagener
May 17, 1918 - January 29, 2015Dorothy Ivone (Galbraith) Wagener, age 96, of Storm Lake, Iowa, went to be with her Lord on January 29, 2015.
Dorothy was born on May 17, 1918, in Fonda, Iowa, to Leon and Julia (Campbell) Galbraith. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Lincoln Lee High School east of Rembrandt in 1932.
After earning her teaching certificate at Buena Vista College, Dorothy began teaching country school near Sac City. She met her future husband, L.H. Wagener, at Buena Vista College, marrying him on March 5, 1939, in Sioux Rapids. Two children were born to their union, Renauld (Renny) J. and Rex Lee.
Enduring all the activities of normal growing boys, Dorothy, very much, enjoyed her years as a mother. She and Wag and the boys took regular vacations across the United States and out of the country. The family’s first pet was Perkie, a small terrier. Years later, they acquired, Doxie, a dachshund, and about eight years ago they received a second dachshund, Holly, as a Christmas present. They enjoyed her constant companionship and entertainment.
Throughout her adult life, Dorothy took pleasure in playing bridge and golf, going dancing with Wag, teaching many classes at church, volunteering as a buyer for the hospital gift shop, consulting as a HODA Decorator, and spending time with college girls as a Buena Vista sorority adviser. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family and friends as well as entertaining them on the lake.
Her survivors include L.H., her loving husband of seventy-five years; her two sons, Renny (Sandy), of Ankeny, and Rex (Cindy), of Storm Lake; her grandchildren: Chad, Kayla, Colton (Ann), Travis (Linda), Megan (Aaron), and Dylan (Jenny); and her great-grandchildren: Brandal, Daylan, Isabelle, Zachary, Chelsea, and Elliott; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Beulah.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday and continue until the beginning of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in care of the Dorothy Wagener Scholarship Fund. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
