October 31, 1944 - February 3, 2015

Gary Herman Tunink, a son of Bernard and Irma (Stangel) Tunink, was born on October 31, 1944, in Templeton, Iowa. He grew up in the Glidden area, graduating from Glidden High School in 1962.

Gary married Betty Jane Florke on February 27, 1965, in Carroll, Iowa. Following their wedding, they farmed in the Dedham area until 1971 when they moved to Linn Grove and farmed the family farm until 2008. That year, they retired and bought a lake house in Spirit Lake. A member of the St. Louis Catholic Church, Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR races. He treasured his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids and loved to spend time with them participating in their lives.

Gary passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He and Betty would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on February 27, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Howard and Bernard; his father-in-law, Raymond Florke; two brothers-in-law: Jerry and Eldon Florke.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his eight children, Constance Tunink, of Gulfport, Florida, Geri Kragel, of Spencer, Iowa, Scott (Deb) Tunink, of Royal, Iowa, Amy Tunink, of Hastings, Minnesota, Gary Ray Tunink, of Sutherland, Iowa, Kris and Kortney Tunink, both of Linn Grove, Iowa, and Kami (Jim) Bushee, of Hartley, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a brother, Lyle Tunink, of Perry, Iowa; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday evening, February 8, 2015, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal. There will also be a Rosary at 4:30 P.M., prior to the visitation. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 9, 2015, at the church, Fr. Francis Makwinja officiating. All of his grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. A private family burial will follow at a later date.
