Katherine Wise
May 22, 1918 - January 6, 2015Katherine Wise, age 96, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Katherine Louise Keller, a daughter of James William and Amanda Louise Getchen (Grohe) Keller, was born on May 22, 1918, in Manson, Iowa. Baptized in infancy in Manson, she was later confirmed at the Methodist Church in Early in 1930. She attended grade school in Early, Dickens, and Storm Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1936.
On March 10, 1941, Katherine married Lloyd Wise at the University Church of Christ in Des Moines, Iowa. Following their wedding, they lived on the Wise family farm east of Storm Lake for twenty-six years. They, then, moved into town in 1967.
Katherine worked at various secretarial and bookkeeping jobs throughout her adult life. The last fifteen years before she retired, she worked at the Buena Vista County Engineers Office in the county courthouse. She retired on February 1, 1982.
A longtime member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Katherine held various positions in the church and volunteered for various jobs such as serving on the outreach commission, on the library board, as Circle Chairman of the Presbyterian Woman, with the Eastern Star, and as the Wa-Tan-Ye vice-president and president.
In her spare time, Katherine enjoyed reading, bowling, and playing golf with her husband, Lloyd. They spent as much time as possible playing on their “home” course at Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and in tournaments in the area. They enjoyed the lake and also spent several winters in southern Texas.
Those left to cherish her memory include the Keller family: Peggy Jagerson, Bill, Tom, and Wally Keller, Nancy Peters, Joell Sullivan, and Charlotte Wolfgang; and the Wise family: Einer Jensen, Ruth Ann Nelson, and Greg, Lynn, and Robert Wise; as well as many great nephews and nieces; extended family members; and friends.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd, who passed away in 2006; her brothers: Roy, Joseph, Raymond, and James; and her sisters: Lillian Keller Nielsen and Anna Marie Keller.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
