Born on July 7, 1926, Betty was raised on a family farm in Marathon surrounded by her parents, Edgar and Florence Bently; her sister, Donna; and two brothers, Russell and Rex.
Betty treasured her family, and she started her own shortly after graduating. They lived in various communities throughout the Midwest and Northwest. An honest, hardworking, and reliable person, she worked as a small business bookkeeper, owned a beauty salon, and managed restaurants and motels.
In the 90s, she chose to move back to Marathon to care for her aging mother. In addition, she reveled in the joy of coming home. In their later years, she and her husband, Gaylen, moved to Spencer where they remained.
Her long battle with cancer ended on February 26, 2014. Her family wishes to thank the many wonderful health care professionals who helped her at the end of her journey. To us, each a hero. Thank you.
Betty will be long remembered by her devoted husband, Gaylen; her son, David Chase; her daughters, Ginny Culp and Michele Flock; her sister, Donna Urban; her brother, Russell Bentley; her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: A graveside service will be held in Marathon on April 26, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to the Hospice of Spencer Hospital at 116 E. 11th Street, Spencer, Iowa 51301.
INTERMENT: Poland Township Cemetery, Marathon, Iowa.
