Dorothy Belle Davis
February 28, 1924 - February 7, 2014Dorothy Belle Davis, a daughter of John and Jessie Wiley, was born on February 28, 1924, in Varina, Iowa. She spent her childhood years in the Varina, Storm Lake, and Rembrandt areas where she received her education.
Dorothy married Wayne Davis of Laurens, Iowa, on September 5, 1940, at the Methodist Parsonage in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They farmed in the Laurens, Marathon, and Dickens area. A farm wife, she spent many hours in the field helping her husband. They were blessed with two children: Sonja and Larry.
In 1970, they moved to Spencer where they owned D & D Electric until Wayne's death in 1983. Dorothy worked at various businesses in Spencer and retired from the Plaza 1 Motel where she had been employed as receptionist for thirteen years.
Dorothy passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents; an infant sister, Doris; her brothers: Morris, Wesley, Francis, and Hubert Wiley and her son-in-law, Jonathon Steward.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonja, and her husband, Allan Meyer, of Buckeye, Arizona; her son, Larry, and his wife, Patti Davis, of Spencer, Iowa; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, Pastor Kay Hooper officiating.
VISITATION: Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
SPECIAL MUSIC: “This Is My Father's World,” “Softly and Tenderly,” “Bridge Over Troubled Waters'.”
INTERMENT: Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa.
A lunch and time of fellowship will be held at the Wesley Room at Grace United Methodist Church following the graveside services.
