Thresia Tunink
December 19, 1916 - November 24, 2014

Thresia Tunink, age 97, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, November 24, 2014, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Born on December 19, 1916, in Elgin, Nebraska, a daughter of William and Catherine (Overmohle) Tunink, Thresia was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic
Church in Elgin.

Thresia did house work and helped with children for many years. She, then, worked at the Indian Missions in Marty, South Dakota, for several years. In 1940, she moved to Early, Iowa, to keep house for her uncle, Henry Overmohle. There, she looked forward to the fishing trips that she and Henry took every fall to Minnesota. In time, those who knew her looked forward to her 4th of July picnics with fried spring chicken, fresh strawberries, and homemade ice cream. After Henry’s death, she worked as a hot lunch cook at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Early. Eventually, however, she retired from there to give her full-time attention to a greenhouse that started as a hobby, but expanded into a thriving business.

After moving to the Villa in Storm Lake, Thresia continued her love of sewing and quilting. Indeed, she made many beautiful quilts for friends and relatives. In 2011, she entered the Methodist Manor Retirement Community.

A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Thresia served on the Sacred Heart Guild. After moving to Storm Lake, she became a member of St. Mary’s Parish.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Jerry Tunink, of Neligh, Nebraska; and her sisters, Loretta Zegers, of Petersburg, Nebraska, and Mary Ann Kloewer, of Fremont, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Thresia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Father Wilfred, OSB, Tony Tunink, and Leo Tunink; and her sisters, Philomena Wilwerding, and Betty Wolff.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, November 28, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Early, Iowa. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
