June Assmann, age 84, of Alta, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia, Iowa.

A daughter of William and Ludvina (Kohles) Langenfeld, Junella Cecilia was born on June 18, 1930, in Earling, Iowa, where she would grow up and go to school. Baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, she attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling, graduating in 1948.

On November 10, 1952, June married Arthur Joseph Assmann at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. Subsequently, they were blessed with seven children: Timothy, Leah, Edgar, Lynn, Lori, Sue, and Dean.

After receiving her cosmetology license, June opened the Silhouette Salon in the 1970s in Alta, a business which she owned and operated until 2000.

In her spare time, June loved to be outside in her garden. She enjoyed canning, playing cards, taking trips to the casino, and traveling in general. Indeed, she wintered in Destin, Florida. Most of all, however, June valued her family. She will be remembered as a fun and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Timothy (Barb) Assmann, of Hay Springs, Nebraska, Leah (Dan) Wernimont, of Pocahontas, Iowa, Edgar (Anselmo) Assmann, of Palm Springs, California, Lynn (Fred) Boykin, of Denver, Colorado, Lori (Kyle) McGowan, of Crete, Nebraska, Sue (Tom Richter) Stevens, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Dean (Jean) Assmann, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren: Brandon, Cody (Serena), Ethan (Sherry Milikar), and Ryan Assmann; Natasha (Wade) Broom; Elissa (Matt) Doebel; Conner and Ian McGowan; Coral (fiancé, Juan Hernandez), Justin, and Rhoman (Breanna) Laski; Katie (Tommy) Oviatt; Morgan (Kent) Schreiner; Benjamin Stevens (Delanie Kulp); and Carley (fiancé, Johnathon Maley), Christopher, and Nicholas (Pamela) Wernimont; her great-grandchildren: Dahlia Oviatt, Tansy Dee Assmann, Carson Johnson, Evie and Stella Broom; Leila Carlson, Johnathan Hernandez, Kinsley Laski, Mia Schreiner, Ryker and Jovie Doebel; her brother, Bob Langenfeld, of Red Oak, Iowa; her sisters, Marie Graeve, of Earling, Iowa, and Delores Jacoby, of Waterloo, Iowa; her brothers-in-law, Melvin Schechinger and Bernard (Rene) Assmann; and her sisters-in-law, Ann and Kate Langenfeld; as well as extended family members and many friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art; her grandson, Aaron Wernimont; her granddaughter, Machayla Stevens; her sisters, Rita Schechinger and Gladys Dolan; and her brothers, Mello and Joe Langenfeld.
