Lyle Peters
June 29, 1936 - October 27, 2014Lyle Peters, age 78, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, October 27, 2014, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
A son of Claus and Belle (Jansen) Peters, Lyle LeRoy was born on June 29, 1936, in rural Sac County, Iowa.
On September 6, 1936, Lyle was baptized at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church in rural Breda, Iowa.
On April 2, 1954, Lyle entered the United States Navy, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge on June 27, 1957. On May 1, 1960, he married Marilyn Luckow in Lake View, Iowa. Although they, later, divorced, they had four children together: Jeffery Jay, Julie Dawn, Joelle Denee, and Jeanna Danielle.
Lyle spent his life working as a barber, opening his own shop, Lyle’s Barber Shop, in 1966. A faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, he was also an active member of the AMVETS and the Alta VFW.
In his spare time, Lyle enjoyed fishing, mowing, and helping others. Most of all, however, he cherished the time he spent with family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving and caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Jeff (Judi) Peters, of Harlingen, Texas, Julie Christiansen (Tony Ebel), of Storm Lake, Iowa, Joelle (Pat) Ryherd, of Newell, Iowa, and Jeanna (Vince) Krepps; his grandchildren: Caitlin, Ashley, Nicholas, and Noah Peters, of Harlingen, Texas; Missy (Eric) Kloss, of Ft. Wright, Kentucky; Daniel (Amber) Christiansen, of North Liberty, Iowa; Dillon and Dustin Ebel, of Storm Lake, Iowa; Patrick (Emily) Ryherd, of Haverhill, Iowa; Levi Ryherd, of Ames, Iowa; and Trevor, Tayla, Tyler, and Tristan Krepps; his great-grandchildren: Sawyer Kloss, of Ft. Wright, Kentucky, and Laiken Christiansen, of North Liberty, Iowa; his brothers: Don (Connie) Peters, of Washburn, Iowa, and Howard Peters, of Marshalltown, Iowa; his sisters: Judy (John) Lympus, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Wanda Martin, of Independence, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Carol Peters, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Belle Peters; an infant son, Jamie Peters; his brother, Melvin Peters, and his sisters: Donna Mae Peters, Velma Arnette, Eunice Crosser, and Sharon O’Neal.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with military rites by the Storm Lake AMVETS Post #66 to follow. Burial will take place in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
