Services For Herbert Harvey Held Tuesday, October 18

Services for Herbert Harvey, long-time Newell resident and former businessman, were held Tuesday at the Congregational church; Rev. G. W. Reinmuth officiating. Mr. Harvey passed away Sunday following failing health which had confined him to his home at the Lyle Smith residence for several months. Music was provided by a male quartet composed of Frank Hocum, Ivy Russell, Kenneth Anderson and Gilbert Hill, accompanied by Miss Loverne Erickson.
Pall bearers were Carl Trukken, A. J. Hill, James Lindsay, Oscar Samelson, Gladwyn Ellis and Edward Hoch. Mrs. Ivan Adams, Mrs Lyle Smith and Mrs. Hans Larson were in charge of flowers. Royal Lodge 428 of Newell conducted Masonic graveside rites.

Obituary
Herbert A. Harvey, son of Leonard J. and Elizabeth Hawkins Harvey, was born in Excelsior, Wis, December 6, 1868. He came with his parents to Storm Lake, Iowa, at the age of two years and lived there until moving to Newell about 1900. He was one of the early graduates of Storm Lake High School, graduating in 1885.

He worked in Brown Brother's Store in Storm Lake until he and his brother Charles purchased a Clothing Store in Newell. For some time he was Cashier in the bank at Newell and later purchased a General Mercantile business. He served several terms as County Clerk of Buena Vista County.

On May 18, 1892 he was married to Myra Judge who preceded him in death on July 26, 1931. They were the parents of three children, Gladys (Mrs. A. O Hoch) who passd away October 9, 1954, Harry, who died shortly after birth; and Doris. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Herbert A. Hoch, October 20, 1951.

Mr. Harvey was a member of the Knights Pythias for many years, a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and a member and Past Patron of the Eastern Star. He was very active in all Community and School activities as long as his strength would permit He was always one of the most interested persons in sports activities of the community and could nearly always be found at all the local high school sports.

He is survived by one daughter, Doris of Newell, one grandson Harold R Hoch and wife, two great-grandsons, Dana and Eric Hoch, a son-in-law, Arthur O. Hoch, all of Los Angeles, California. Also mourning his passing are his many friends. (The Newell Mirror, Oct. 20, 1955, p. 1)
