Storm Lake, Iowa

Admitted to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center on November 30, 2013, Harold Olson along with his wife, Jo, moved into the Methodist Manor on December 4, 2013. On Tuesday, May 27, 2014, Harold was called from this life to his heavenly home. He had reached the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 17 days.

Harold I. Olson was born on September 10, 1918, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Otto and Hattie (Hoeppner) Olson. Baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee County, Iowa, he was confirmed there on May 15, 1932.

Harold met Josephine Edna Marshall at a bakery in Cherokee where they both worked. He married her on July 5, 1937. They were, subsequently, blessed with five children: Garry, Jennie, Carol, Becky, and Rob.

Before owning and operating the bakery in Newell, Iowa, Harold worked for the railroad in Cherokee. Later, he worked at Hy-Grade in Storm Lake, a position he held until he retired.

In his spare time, Harold enjoyed traveling by car. He loved going on vacations to the Black Hills, Nebraska, and Colorado. He also valued the members of his family and treasured the time he was able to spend with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of seventy-six years, Josephine Olson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Garry (Joyce) Olson, Jennie (Gene) Gamber, and Carol (Tim) Bertram, all of Storm Lake, Iowa, as well as Becky (Steve) Hesselman, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Rob (Sammie Jo) Olson, of Mesa, Arizona; his grandchildren: Tara Bertram; Andrew, Jill, and Nicholas (Liz) Hesselman; Jennifer (Chad) Jochims; Kim (Al) Lytle; Alex, Christopher, Dan, and Jacque Olson; Angela Reinen; and Shelby Watt; his great grandchildren: Alex, Caitlyn, Allison, and Emma Hesselman; Jade, Cole, and Jack Jochims; Dalton and Maclayn Lytle; Cory, Nichole, and Shawn Reinen; and Trinity Reuter; his brothers: Francis (Pat) Olson and Virgil Olson; and his sisters: Anita Nelson, Evelyn Scott, and Darlene Milbrodt; as well as extended family members and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hattie Olson; his brothers: Leonard, Bill, Donald, and Merlyn Olson; his sisters: Viola, Clara, Dorothy, Mary Joyce, Margaret, and Luella.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., May 30, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., May 31, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Interment: May 31, 2014, at the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
