Dorothy Jean Christiansen
September 18, 1937 - June 17, 2014

Dorothy Jean (Andersen) Christiansen, age 76, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Dorothy was born in Storm Lake on September 18, 1937, a daughter of Elmer and Irene (Bjorklund) Andersen. She attended school in Varina, Newell, and Sac City before graduating from Rembrandt Consolidated School in 1955. Then, she attended a trade school in Omaha, Nebraska.

On March 24, 1961, Dorothy married Roger Christiansen at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa. They lived in the Storm Lake area. Dorothy and her husband enjoyed their trips to and winters in Arizona. She also very much enjoyed her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Over the years, Dorothy worked at the ASCS office, at Alco, in the Storm Lake School Administration office, at the Popcorn Store, at Buena Vista College, and at Faith, Hope, and Charity. In addition, she also participated in and worked at her husband’s business, Commercial Sign & Design.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Roger Christiansen; four children: Tracy (Larry) Klataske, of Pella, Iowa, Barry Christiansen, of Corydon, Iowa, Julie (Kevin) Lenzine, of Chariton, Iowa, and Curtis (Heather) Christiansen, of Newell, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Mark (Carol) Christiansen, of Omaha, Nebraska; Marjorie (Jerry) Raper, of Asheville, North Carolina, Jeanette Bircher, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Ann Monroe, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Ralph (Jane) Christiansen, of Fonda, Iowa; and her aunt, Jeanette Johnson, of Laurens, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law; one sister; two brothers; and a sister-in-law.

Memorial service will take place on Friday, June 20, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
