Ruth A. Miller, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Early, Iowa, died on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Ruth Aileen James was born on July 25, 1926, in Newell, Iowa, a daughter of Edwin and Effie (Ellis) James. Baptized on April 25, 1943, at the First Congregational Church in Newell, Iowa, and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Early, Iowa, on November 24, 1965, Ruth attended Sulphur Springs school where she later graduated. Continuing her education in Dayton, Ohio, she enrolled in a Legal Secretary Educational Program.

On June 27, 1965, Ruth married Verlyn Miller at Faith Lutheran Church in Early.

Ruth enjoyed all of her children and grandchildren. She valued her family and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dennis (Sandy) Leonard, of Jettersville, Virginia, Gary (Audrey) Leonard, of Colorado Springs, Gloria (Les) Preece, of Midland, Texas, David “Whitey” Leonard and Lisa Frye, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Michelle Miller and Lew Boone, of Midland, Texas, and Mark (Kristy) Miller, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Angel Gunn; Jennifer Hyson; Michael, Ross, and Stephanie Leonard; Jeffrey Maymon and Megan Miller; and Anthony Peel; and her great grandchildren: Dominick Hyson; Brandon Leonard; Brice Moore; Jordan Orduno; Addison, Devin, and Trinity Peel; and Brittney Rice; as well as extended family members and many friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Effie James; her husband, Verlyn Miller; three brothers: DeLoss James, Fred (Amy) James, and Donald (Ruthie) James; and her daughter-in-law, Dianne Leonard.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m., May 22, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., May 23, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
