Lynn Freese
August 03, 1951 - April 29, 2014Storm Lake, Iowa
Lynn Freese, age 62, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on April 29, 2014, in Phoenix, Arizona.
The son of Gordon Lowell Freese, Lynn Leroy Freese was born on August 3, 1951, in Hampton, Iowa. Growing up, he was raised by his father and grandmother, Laura (Christensen) Freese. He attended school at CAL Community Schools in Coulter, Iowa.
In 1969, Lynn moved to Arizona. While there, he met and married Ruth Ellen (Bell) Freese at the American Lutheran Church, in Prescott, Arizona. They were blessed with three children: David, Daniel, and Amy.
Lynn, Ruth, and their family moved to Storm Lake in 1980. In 1982, he began working at IBP and continued with Tyson, a position he held until his death.
In addition to working full-time at IBP, Lynn spent his weekends operating his own construction business. Acting as his own contractor for many years, he built two homes for his family in Storm Lake. With the help of his family, he also did much of the sub-contracting work himself, including framing, concrete, electrical, drywall, shingles, flooring, and all the inside finishing work. He also collected different types of power tools.
In his spare time, Lynn loved to play the guitar and to dance, including the foxtrot, swing, Texas two-step, and the waltz. He was a Goldwing roadtripper, fly fisherman, occasional cigar aficionado, and RAGBRAI support crew member and rider. He loved basset hounds and traveling.
Lynn was happiest when he had a hammer, guitar, or motorcycle throttle in his hands, a grandchild in his lap, or one of his dogs at his feet.
Most of all, Lynn loved his family. Their memories together will be treasured forever.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth Freese, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: David (Kate) Freese, of Alta, Iowa, Daniel (Melissa) Freese, of Early, Iowa, and Amy Freese (fiancé, Tim Evans), of Evanston, Illinois; his grandchildren: Breanna Nielsen, of Cherokee, Iowa; Andrew Freese, of Cherokee, Iowa; Sarah, Kyle, and Aidan Freese of Alta, Iowa; and Grace and Faith Freese, of Early, Iowa; his grandchildren of his heart, Dani and Ben Evans; his great-grandchild, Logan Owens, of Cherokee, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Bev Freese, of Emporia, Virginia; and his nephews, Roger and Tony Freese, and their families; as well as extended family members and friends.
Lynn was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Freese; his brother, Lowell Freese; and his grandmother, Laura Freese.
