Aleen M. Hassard
March 2, 1939 - March 23, 2014Aleen M. Hassard, a daughter of Al and Evelyn (Schuler) Hanson, was born on March 2, 1939, in Oakland, California. She spent her childhood years in Oakland where she attended and graduated from St. Elizabeth’s High School.
In 1962, Aleen moved to Oak Park, Illinois, where she owned and operated a home interior decorating business for many years. In 1981, she moved to Alta, Iowa, where she met, Scott Schuler, her longtime companion of thirty-two years. They made their home in Alta.
Working from home, Aleen enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening along with helping Scott raise his children. She also liked reading and attending sporting events, especially football and ice skating games. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
On Sunday, March 23, 2014, Aleen passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center at the age of 75. She was preceded in death by her father, Al Hanson, and one sister, Janice Pausa.
She will be lovingly remembered by her partner, Scott Schuler, of Alta, Iowa; her mother, Evelyn Hanson, of Lodi, California; her children: Jacqueline (Michael) Heneghan, of Westminster, Colorado, John (Ann) Hassard, of Flower Mound, Texas, William “Bob” Hassard, of Cleburne, Texas, Keith Schuler, of Branson, Missouri, Lisa Gaule, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Aaron Schuler, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren; and one brother, Kern (Karen) Hanson, of Valley Springs, California; as well as by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Father Tim Friedrichsen officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment will take place at a later date.
