Lyle A. Grubb, age 67, of Marathon, Iowa, died on Monday, March 31, 2014, at his home in Marathon.

Lyle Arvin Grubb, a son of Arvin G. and Audrey Jean (Rimmer) Grubb, was born in Kingsley, Iowa, on February 22, 1947. He lived his youth and received his education in Kingsley, graduating from the Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1966.

Following his graduation, Lyle attended a trade school at the University of Iowa where he received training in the linotype and newspaper printing business. His first job was with a newspaper at Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

Lyle entered the United States Army and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. Stationed in Germany, he greatly enjoyed his military career. After twelve and a half years in the regular army, he continued his service in the National Guard for the following ten years.

Lyle held various jobs throughout his lifetime. He worked the night shift at Bill-Mar Foods in Storm Lake for seventeen and a half years and then at a refrigeration factory in Spencer for another eight years. In 2007, he began working at Shine Brothers in Spencer where he remained until he retired.

After retiring, Lyle volunteered as a driver for the Veterans Administration for five years, taking veterans to their medical appointments. In recent years, he enjoyed mowing around hog confinements and other places. His special interests included hunting and bowling.

Lyle is lovingly remembered by his family which includes his nieces and nephews: Paul and Lisa Niebuhr, of LeMars, Iowa, and Laura and Dierk Breytsprakk, Tom and Melissa Grubb, and Jerry and Amy Grubb, all of Kingsley, Iowa; his uncle and aunt, Ken and Hope Rimmer, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and his aunt, Maroldine Grabe, of Kingsley, Iowa; along with numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arvin Grubb, who died when Lyle was eight years old; his mother, Audrey; his step-father, Arlo Grubb; and his brother- and sister-in-law, Lauren W. and Patricia Grubb.

Memorials may be given in Lyle’s memory to the American Legion Post in Marathon or the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, Iowa. Interment will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Visitation with the family present will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of arrangements.
