Dr. Theodore Liautaud, Sr., age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on March 4, 2014, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Dr. Liautaud was born on January 14, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Michael and Barbara (Hasler) Liautaud. On September 16, 1967, he married Peggy Freeberg in Tampa, Florida. They were blessed with one son, Theodore R. Liautaud, Jr., born in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Dr. Liautaud graduated from Tampa University and received his Doctorate in Osteopathy from Des Moines University. Having begun his work in Psychiatry at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, he eventually provided psychiatric services in Carroll, Sac City, Denison, Audubon, and Storm Lake as well as in nursing homes throughout the area. A member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, and the American Psychiatric Association, he served as the initial Director of Psychiatry for the Hope Harbor Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.
Known as a kind and empathic psychiatrist always willing to listen, Dr. Liautaud respected his patients and those who worked with him. An avid fan of all music from the 60s and 70s and beyond, he also had a love for boating, body surfing, basketball, traveling, and enjoying an interesting cuisine.
Dr. Theodore Liautaud, Sr., was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Peggy Liautaud, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his son, Theodore (Stephanie) Liautaud, Jr., of Kansas City, Missouri; his brother, Robert Liautaud, of Tacoma, Washington; his sister, Debbie (Al) Brosas, of California; his brother-in-law, Larry (Eileen) Freeberg, of Chicago, Illinois; and his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Freeberg, of San Francisco, California; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, and colleagues.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Mary’s Endowment Foundation, Storm Lake, Iowa.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m., March 07, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., March 08, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
