James "JJ" Julius
October 03, 1944 - January 27, 2014Storm Lake, Iowa
Jim “JJ” Julius, age 69, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
James Corbett Julius was born on October 3, 1944, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Corbett H. Julius and Geraldine M. (Petersen) Julius of Manson, Iowa. Baptized into the Catholic faith as an infant and confirmed at St. Thomas’ Catholic Church in Manson, Iowa, he received his elementary education at Manson Country Schools and graduated from Manson High School in 1962. He, then, enlisted into the United States Navy and served on the USS Henry W. Tucker from 1962 to 1965 during the Vietnam War. Following the service, he attended Iowa Central Community College.
On September 16, 1967, he married Nancy Ann Cahill at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They were, subsequently, blessed with two daughters, Christina Marie and Sara Lynn.
He worked for many years as a USDA meat inspector for Hormel and IBP in Fort Dodge and later as Personnel Director at IBP in both Fort Dodge and Storm Lake. For many years, he was also a member of the Army National Guard in Fort Dodge. After moving to Storm Lake in 1982, Jim and Nancy bought JJ’s Lounge, which they owned and operated until 2001 when JJ went into semi-retirement and worked as a salesman at Rasmussen Ford until 2009, when he was paralyzed by a spinal cord stroke.
Jim enjoyed many activities, but none more than golf, as was evidenced by his four holes-in-one and many golfing trips across the country. He also loved to play cards and cheer on his Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. Spending time with his family gave him great joy, especially when his grandchildren were with him. A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, he also belonged to Alta VFW Post #6172.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Nancy, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his daughters, Christina (Brian) Luther, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Sara (Bryan) Carlson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren, Paige, Tate, and Lane Carlson of Storm Lake, Iowa; his brothers: Allan (Nancy) Julius, of Omaha, Nebraska, Lynn (Patty), of Maricopa, Arizona, and Mike Julius and Bruce Porter, of Twin Lakes, Iowa; and his sisters: Marge (Bud) Legg, of Ames, Iowa, and Jan (Denny) Flaherty, of Pocahontas, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
