Storm Lake, Iowa

Marguerite J. "Rickie" Johnson, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Marguerite Joan “Rickie” Johnson was born on July 20, 1927, to Herbert and Edith Beer in Killarney, Manitoba, Canada. She was raised near Lena, Manitoba where her father worked on the Boundary. Rickie took up residence in the United States in 1955 after moving to Largo, Florida. There, after becoming acquainted with Ralph Johnson, she moved to the Storm Lake, Iowa, area.

Ralph and Rickie married on March 24, 1964. After 28 years of service, Rickie retired from Coast to Coast. She had lived in Lakeside for over fifty years.

Rickie had a great love for her dogs, and over the years, many received her special love and care: Suzie, Tinker, Dolly, Jo-Jo, and her current love, Tinker II. She often would walk her dog and stop to visit with neighbors. She also enjoyed her plants, tending and nourishing her many beautiful flowers with her green thumb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Johnson; and her brother, Edmond Beer.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters and their husbands: Bill and Myrtle Schweitzer, Irene Morrison, Don and Geraldine Cassels, and Kathleen Michaux, all of Canada, and Gladys Beer, of Lancaster, California; her sister-in-law, Frances Snelson, of Springfield, Missouri; her nephew, Tom and Marie Johnson, of Spencer, Iowa, and their children, Heather and Jessica; her niece, Marilyn and Dan Carlson, of Wolf Lake, Indiana, and their children, Erin, Daniel, and Michal; Ralph’s daughter and her family of Florida; and her very special friends: Virgil and Kelly Gaffey, and their children, Jennifer and Tony; Pete and Janet Reinert, and their children, Hilary and Tyler, all of Lakeside, Iowa; and Joseph Moscato, Sr., of Florida; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m., January 28, 2014, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Memorials are being directed to Unity Point Hospice. Their services have been invaluable during this difficult time. A special thank you to Kelly and Janet, who have been her faithful friends for years.
