September 9, 1935 - November 26, 2013

Richard L. Frederick, age 78, of Boone, Iowa, and formerly of Rembrandt, Iowa, died on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the Mary Greely Hospital in Ames, Iowa.

Richard Lee Frederick, the son of Lee and Maxine (Shaw) Frederick, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on September 9, 1935. He grew up in Rembrandt and received his education there, graduating from the Rembrandt Consolidated School in 1953. Next, he faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, to further his education, he attended a railroad telegraphy school.

Dick spent his professional career with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, serving as a dispatcher for forty years. While working for the railroad, he resided in Oelwein, Clear Lake, Mason City, and Boone. For the past twenty years during his retirement, he was employed in the office at the Boone County Landfill. His personal life was blessed by his daughter, Toni.

He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church at Boone. Dick always enjoyed working outdoors, tending to his flowers and taking care of his yard. A fan of many sports, he was especially an avid golfer.

Those to honor and cherish his life include his daughter and her husband, Toni and Tom Dakin, of Kensett, Iowa; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Angela Frederick, of Hutchinson, Kansas; his niece, Carrie Swanson; and his nephew, Christian Frederick; as well as other extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given in Dick’s memory to the Boone Evangelical Free Church.
