Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Schaller, Iowa

Leota LaFern Ploeger, age 101, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Schaller, Iowa, died on September 22, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Leota LaFern King was born on July 24, 1912, in rural Nemaha, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar Jackson and Leora S. (Biggins) King. Baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church, she attended public schools in Alta and Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1930.

On February 19, 1931, Leota married Herman Ploeger at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ parsonage in rural Schaller with Reverend Otto Engelman officiating. They were blessed with four children: Marvin, Phyllis, Norma, and Dennis.

Leota and Herman farmed in the Storm Lake, Early, and Schaller areas for many years before retiring to their home in Schaller in 1971. In 2007, she moved to Lake Pointe Villa in Storm Lake.

Leota was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, and sewing, especially the many quilts she made for her children and grandchildren. She treasured spending time with her family and had several fond memories of the trips they had taken together. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Phyllis (Edward) Lenz, of Early, Iowa, Norma (Wallace) Boysen, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dennis (Diane) Ploeger, of Glidden, Iowa; her grandchildren: Wanda (Jack) Konz, of Johnston, Iowa, Cheryl (Steve) Olmstead, of Queen Creek, Arizona, David (Judy) Ploeger, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Vicki (Joe) Kingkade, of Omaha, Nebraska, Sue (Ron) Loggins, of Early, Iowa, Mary Brau, of Carroll, Iowa, Linda (Doug) Mandernach, of Adel, Iowa, Christie (Richard) Sharpe, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Douglas (Diane) Boysen, of Omaha, Nebraska, Carrie (Kevin) Quinn, of West Chicago, Illinois, and Kimberly (Clark) Buelt, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; twenty-four great grandchildren; twenty-two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Geneva Lames, of Farmington, Arkansas; as well as many nieces; nephews; extended family members; and friends.

Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, in 1993; her son, Marvin, and daughter-in-law, Betty Ploeger; a daughter-in-law, Karen Ploeger; her parents, Oscar and Leora King; her brothers, Russell and Kenneth King; a sister-in-law, Marion King; a sister, Florence Kendell; and brother-in-law, Robert Lames.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., September 25, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., September 26, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller, Iowa.
Interment: September 26, 2013, at Immanuel Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa.
