December 11, 1918 - September 13, 2013Wanetta R. Wenell, age 94, of Albert City, Iowa, died on September 13, 2013, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.
Wanetta Ramona Olson, the daughter of Joel and Ethel Mamie (Hinsley) Olson, was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on December 11, 1918, where she lived her youth and received her education.
On June 30, 1947, Wanetta married Vergil Wenell. Their family included their children, Charles, Elwood, Sandra, and Mike. Following their marriage, they resided on a farm near Albert City before moving into town in 1985.
Throughout her working career, Wanetta was employed at nursing homes in Albert City and Laurens. She also worked at a restaurant in Albert City, and for several years, she taught a course on leather tooling in Fonda.
A member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Albert City, Wanetta also belonged to the Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed traveling very much and visited thirty-eight countries during her travels. She also had a gift for making quilts, which she shared with her family, and doing beautiful embroidery handwork. She loved her family and grandchildren very much and enjoyed participating in their lives.
Wanetta’s life will always be celebrated and honored by her children: C. Elwood “Woody” Wenell, of Albert City, Iowa, Sandra Kies, of Mason City, Iowa, and Mike (Donna) Lynch, of Redfield, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jamie Kies, Melissa (Tom) Payne, Pam (Corey) Manary, Brandon (Jessie) Kies, and Travis (Hanna) Kies; her great grandchildren: Samantha (Dominic) Petitt, Haley Kies, Colton Payne, Lexi Payne, Tayah Manary, Caydren Manary, and Easton Kies; and her faithful Chihuahua, Scooter, as well as extended family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Charles Wenell; her son-in-law, Harlan Kies; one sister, Nadine Olson; and three brothers: Kenneth, Leon, and Willis.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Monday, September 16, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
