Alta

Caroljean A. Pedersen, age 80, of Alta, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City.

Caroljean Ann Pedersen was born in Albert City, Iowa, to Emil and Edna Olin. As a child, she participated in 4-H, the All-State Choir, and the Luther League as well as competing in many piano competitions. After graduating from Albert City High School in 1950, she earned a degree in elementary education from Iowa State Teachers College. She, then, taught third grade in Alta for two years.

In 1954, Caroljean married David V. Pedersen. Five children were born to this union. A homemaker extraordinaire and a wonderful seamstress and cook, she always brought meals to the field at harvest time. Her family has fond memories of her hosting the annual 4th of July fireworks at the farm, fishing with the family, organizing Thanksgiving BINGO, babysitting for grandchildren, and making special care boxes for her children and grandchildren for the holidays. A member of PEO, the Presbyterian Women, and a Sunday school teacher, she, also, enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. An outstanding pianist and organist, she served as the organist for the First Presbyterian Church as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her brother, Dick Olin; her parents-in-law, Vernley and Erna Pedersen; and her brother-in-law, Dean Frish.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann and Sue Pedersen and Mary (Doug) DeRoos; her sons, Mike (Mary) and Dan Pedersen; her grandchildren, Leah (Tyler) Harms, Adam Pedersen, and David DeRoos; one great-grandson, Evan Harms; a brother, Kendall (Eleanor) Olin; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Frish.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Alta with the Rev. Craig T.M. Lee officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013, from 5:00–7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
