Wayne K. Manteufel, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Wayne Kenneth Manteufel, son of Heinrich F. and Ida A. (Wiebe) Manteufel, was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on June 2, 1932. Baptized on August 14, 1932, and confirmed on June 16, 1946, he lived his youth in the Storm Lake vicinity and graduated from Hayes High School.

Wayne faithfully served his country as an infantryman in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from December 2, 1951, to December 1, 1954. Following his honorable discharge, he worked on the Ralph Koskovich farm for several years.

Throughout his adult life, Wayne was employed as a machinist. He began his career at Lundell’s in Cherokee, Iowa, and was later employed at Eaton’s in Spencer, Iowa. He continued his profession in Wichita, Kansas, before moving to Kent, Washington, in 1983 where he was employed with Boeing Aircraft. Because of his declining health, he retired at an early age. He, then, returned to Storm Lake in June of 2013 to be closer to his family.

Wayne was an avid reader, who also took many college courses to help advance himself in his business career. A licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying small airplanes. He also liked traveling, especially to Hawaii, which he visited three times.

Those who will lovingly honor and cherish Wayne’s memory include his brothers and their families: James and Marguerite Manteufel, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and their children: Dan (Kari) Manteufel and Sandy (Doug) Watts, of Thornton, Colorado, Dennis (Kris) Manteufel and Cindy (Mike) Wiseman, of Alta, Iowa, Connie (Chuck) Haselhoff, of Ames, Iowa, Randy Manteufel, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Andy (Shana) Manteufel, of Windom, Minnesota; Harold and DeAnna Manteufel, of Gladbrook, Missouri, and their children: Jeff Manteufel, Linda Moore, and Laurie Thompson; his sister-in-law, Sondra Manteufel, of Hawkins, Texas, and her children: Dorthea West, of Longview, Texas, Nathan Manteufel, of Hawkins, Texas, and Daniel (Channey) Manteufel, of Tyler, Texas; nineteen great nieces and nephews; and six great-great nieces and nephews; as well as extended family members and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents: Henry (1946), Ida (Wiebe) Manteufel (1983); his brothers: Allen Dale Manteufel (1978) and Donald Henry Manteufel (2011), and his great nephew: Aaron James Daniel Manteufel (1991).

Visitation: 9:30 a.m., September 14, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., September 14, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa. Interment: September 14, 2013, at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
