Waldo T. Johnson, age 82, of Spencer, Iowa, and formerly of Albert City, Iowa, died on August 13, 2013, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Waldo Theodore Johnson, the son of Arvid and Edna (Siekman) Johnson, was born in Albert City, Iowa, on September 6, 1930. He grew up on the family farm at Albert City and graduated from Albert City High School. He continued his higher education at Buena Vista University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Waldo faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force from January 15, 1951, until his honorable discharge on November 29, 1954.

On April 16, 1955, Waldo married Donna Christensen in Newell, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Terri, Brad, and Lisa. Waldo was devoted to farming near Albert City his entire life. Donna passed away on April 10, 1993. On February 19, 1999, Waldo married Carole Peterson in Mesa, Arizona. They enjoyed fourteen years together. They lived on Carole’s farm south of Albert City and spent six months of the year on the farm and six months in Mesa. Three years ago, Waldo and Carole moved to Spencer.

A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Mesa, Waldo also belonged to the Albert City American Legion Post #299. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed football. While attending Buena Vista University, he was an outstanding letterman on the football team. He also liked golfing, dancing, and traveling with Carole.

Waldo’s life is celebrated by his family which includes his wife, Carole, of Spencer, Iowa; his daughters, Terri West Silvester, of Frisco, Texas, and Lisa Johnson, of Irvine, California; his daughter-in-law, Kim Johnson, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: Brandon West, of Dallas, Texas, Nicholas Silvester, of Frisco, Texas, Kassi Harder, of Huxley, Iowa, and Rachel Johnson, of Ankeny, Iowa; and four great grandchildren: Maci, Brooklyn, Sarah, and Rylee, as well as by many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Donna; his son, Brad; and his sister, Anna Belle McKibben.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Thursday, August 15, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
