Russ married Patricia Lue Freese on September 24, 1950. They were, subsequently, blessed with three children: Clinton, Curtis, and Christi. In 1975, he married Dora L. Koth, who died in March of 1992.

Russ faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from October 3, 1950, until his honorable discharge on October 6, 1952. He began his employment with Dekalb Aggresearch in 1950 and remained with the company for thirty-three years until he retired.

Russ enjoyed golfing and had served as the coordinator for the Northwest Iowa Senior Golf Association since 1991. Those who knew him will remember him as an avid pinochle player (when he wasn’t golfing). He also enjoyed a good story or joke and told many of his own. He had a remarkable and unmistakable laugh and enjoyed his life to the fullest.

Russ’s memory will always be loved, honored, and cherished by the members of his family, which include his first wife, Pat Killingsworth, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his son, Clinton O. (Cheri I) Tillman, of St. Robert, Missouri; his daughter, Christi K. (Joseph T) Chiarletto, of Crocker, Missouri; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; a sister, Mary M. Wolterman, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Tillman, of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as nieces; nephews; other extended family members; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Jessie Tillman; his son, Curtis Tillman; his “honorary daughter” Calli (Tillman) Seeger; his wife, Dora; and three brothers, Virgil, Elvin, and Carroll.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16.
