Mary Ann Sippel, age 84, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on April 28, 2013, in Johnston, Iowa.

Mary Ann Wattier was born on April 29, 1928, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Rose (Maystadt) Wattier.

Growing up, she attended school in Early. After graduating from Early High School, she attended the Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska. On January 26, 1948, Mary married Joseph K. Sippel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa.

A current member of Bishop Drumm Parish in Johnston and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Mary actively participated in the Sacred Heart Guild, Catholic Daughters, Cursillo, and Search.

A loving wife and mother of thirteen children, Mary enjoyed attending their sporting events. She especially cherished her memory of her 1994 pilgrimage to Medjugorje and the Vatican with her husband, her three sons, and her daughter. She valued her family and always enjoyed the annual Sippel family reunion at Ron and Maureen’s home in New Buffalo, Michigan. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Joe Sippel, of Johnston, Iowa; her children: Dr. Joe (Mary) Sippel, of Omaha, Nebraska, Jim Sippel, of Austin, Texas, John (Colette) Sippel, of Roselle, Illinois, Rick (Cindy) Sippel, of Ankeny, Iowa, Ron (Maureen) Sippel, of Evanston, Illinois, Robert (Joanne) Sippel, of Lombard, Illinois, Carl (Leesa) Sippel, of Kent, Washington, Michael (Lori) Sippel, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Scott Sippel, of Wheaton, Illinois, Rose (Jim) Fitzpatrick, of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathy (Bob) Pertzborn, of Ankeny, Iowa, Therese (Colin) Parker, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and Melissa (Sean) McDonald, of Stewartville, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Eileen (Andy) Duin; Shelly (Jose) Hernandez; Megan, Connor, and Rachel McDonald; Jennifer (Garrett) Oakley; Nicholas and Nicole Parker; Scott and Amanda Pertzborn; Jessica (Juan) Rodriquez; Emily, Andrew, William, Jon, Matt (Megan), R. David, Anna Rose, Aaron (Kathleen), Jason, Daniel, Kevin, Madison, Alison, Julia, Mary Kate, Rebecca, Haylee, and Hayden Sippel; and Christy Thompson; her great grandchildren: Elliotte Duin; Nicki and Olivia Hernandez; Lily and Corinne Oakley; Raven, Natalie, and Claire Sippel; Richard and Eliana Thompson; her brothers, Don Wattier and Mike Wattier; and her sisters: Betty Dahm, Kathryn Dick, Beverly Thiel, and Judy (Gene) Havermann; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; extended family members; and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Rose Wattier; her sister, Ruth Ann; and her grandson-in-law, Stephen Thompson.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic High School, 312 Seneca Street, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588.

Visitation: 3:00-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 3:30 p.m., May 01, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., May 02, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m., May 01, 2013, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: May 02, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Early, Iowa.
