July 8, 1916 - March 21, 2013Alice L. Edwardson, age 96, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on March 21, 2013, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.
Alice Louise Graeber, a daughter of John and Lena (Olson) Graeber, was born on July 8, 1916, near Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She attended school at Cornell and Sioux Rapids, graduating from Sioux Rapids High School in 1934.
On December 8, 1937, Alice married Edwin (Eddie) Edwardson at the Congregational Church in Sioux Rapids. They were subsequently blessed with two children: Gary and Janice. Following their marriage, Alice and Eddie farmed near Everly and later south of Sioux Rapids until 1968 when they retired and moved into town.
A member of the First United Church of Sioux Rapids, Alice also belonged to the Women’s Fellowship Circle, various study clubs, and many card clubs. She served as a 4-H leader and belonged to the exercise coffee group for eighteen years. A lifetime member of the Little Sioux Golf and Country Club, she had a passion for the sport. Indeed, she and Ed even enjoyed traveling to Texas and Arizona with their friends for golfing and fun. For over twenty years, she also enjoyed working at George’s Drug in Sioux Rapids. At home, she enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and spending time with her family.
Alice’s life and memory are honored and celebrated by her family which includes her children: Gary (Jo) Edwardson, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Jan Harris, of Akron, Iowa; six grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; as well as a special longtime friend, Arline Waggoner; other extended family members; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie, on September 23, 1994; her sister, Leona Waite; and two brothers: Julius and Glen Graeber.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be at a later date in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
