September 16, 1918 - July 24, 2005Ruth M. Book, 86, of Le Mars, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars following a lengthy illness.
The former Ruth Reding was born on September 16, 1918, in Newell, the daughter of Edward L. and Letta (Warren) Reding. She grew up in Storm Lake where she graduated from high school. She, then, received her nurse's training in Carroll. After becoming a registered nurse, she worked for a time in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She did a lot of private nursing as well as working at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars for many years.
Ruth Reding married Arthur F. Book on February 10, 1943, in Storm Lake. Before moving to Union, southeast of Le Mars, they lived in Storm Lake, Montevideo, Minnesota, and Worthington, Minnesota. They operated a grocery store near the Union School. They, then, moved back to Storm Lake for a while where they both worked at Methodist Manor. Next, they moved back to the Le Mars area and then later to Orange City. Art died in 1982. For the past fourteen years, Ruth had made her home at Plymouth Manor.
Survivors include a sister, Rosemary Peterson, and her husband, Leonard, of Wichita, Kansas; two nieces and their husbands: Janet and Robert Barnes and Lorry Ann and Mark Swayze, all of Wichita; a grand niece; three grand nephews; and a great-grand nephew, also all of Wichita; and special friends, Bob and Ruth Kenaley, of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 1982; her father, Edward L. Reding, in 1983; her mother, Letta Reding, in 1966; and a nephew, James L. Peterson, in 1995.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 1, 2005, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with Reverend James Tigges officiating. Graveside services will be held at 5:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
