Kenneth Dale Grundmeier, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Schaller, Iowa, died December 9, 2012, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Kenneth Dale Grundmeier was born in Schaller, Iowa, on April 7, 1924, the son of Herman and Clara (Bloyer) Grundmeier. Baptized at the Immanuel Reformed Church in Schaller, he was later confirmed at the Schaller Presbyterian Church.

Growing up, he attended country school at Eden Township #3 and graduated from Hayes Township in 1941.

Following high school, Kenny enlisted in the United States Army in April, 1942, serving his country in Europe during World War II until he was honorably discharged in April, 1945.

On August 4, 1946, Kenny married Jean Virginia Chindlund at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. They were blessed with four children: Denise, Cynthia, Roger, and Dale.

A member of the Schaller Presbyterian Church involved with the National Presbyterian Mariners, Kenny also served as elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Sioux City Consistory, the Eastern Star, and a life member of the Schaller VFW. He also served as a Farm Bureau Director and Co-op Board member.

Kenny worked at Thompson Hardware and Woodke Machine Shop. He started playing golf at fifty-five and came to love the game. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, tinkering, and creating objects. He treasured his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jean Virginia Grundmeier, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Denise (Don) Reyerson, of Dubuque, Iowa, Cynthia (Jim) Houser, of Perry, Georgia, Roger (Ruth) Grundmeier, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Dale (Kathy) Grundmeier, of New Sharon, Iowa; his grandchildren: Jane (Bill) Ford, Ellen (Jason) Smith, Chad (Christa) Houser, Kurt (Allyson) Houser, Sarah (Curtis) Holub, Jacob (Shannon) Grundmeier, Caleb (Jennifer) Grundmeier, and Seth (Chelsea) Grundmeier; twelve great grandchildren; his brother, Richard (Marie) Grundmeier, of Salt Lake City, Utah; his sisters: Jean Snyder, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jennette Martin, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; his brother-in-law, Bill (Betty) Chindlund, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and his sisters-in-law: Jan (Roy) Vogel, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Norman Gibbons, of California; as well as extended family members and friends.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Bill Martin and James P. Snyder.

Visitation: 3:00-6:00 p.m., December 12, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. December 13, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller, Iowa.
Interment: December 13, 2012 at Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa
