August 20, 1922 - October 24, 2012

Merritt Dennis Lutter, 90, passed away on October 24, 2012, at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Sacred Heart Church in West Des Moines. A private burial will be at a later date at Resthaven Cemetery.

Merritt was born on August 20, 1922, in Marathon to John and Helma (Turnquist) Lutter. He graduated from Storm Lake High School and married Veronica Schmitt on August 23, 1948. An avid fisherman, he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a very proud sixty-year member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 33.

Merritt is survived by his wife, Veronica; his children, Kathy (Ken) Wilgenbusch, Terry Lutter, Alan (Karen) Lutter, Mark (Kathie) Lutter, Dale (Cindi) Lutter, Lisa Lutter, and George (Sharleen) Lutter; thirty-one grandchildren; and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Roy; a brother; and a sister.
