Arnold Grieme
December 26, 1922 - July 28, 2012

Alta, formerly of Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Henry John Grieme was born on December 26, 1922, to Adolf and Frieda Holtz Grieme in rural Alta, Buena Vista County. He graduated from St. John’s Lutheran Parochial School at the end of the eighth grade.

He married LaVonne Francis Fick on November 18, 1945, in rural Alta. They farmed a quarter mile north at Hanover Corner until retiring in 1988. In 2008, he moved to Creekside Apartments of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of rural Alta.

Arnold enjoyed listening to polka and Big Band music. Every year, he attended the annual Hanover festival. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at holidays times. He enjoyed playing and winning at card games as well as flying. Arnold almost always had a smile on his face.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaVonne; a brother, Lester Grieme; and a sister, Arlene Swink.

Arnold is survived by his daughter, Linda J. Nelson, of Omaha, Nebraska; his sons, Bruce Arnold (Linda) Grieme, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Brian David (Penny) Grieme, of Avondale, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Cari (Eric) Kolkmeier, Cristopher Nelson, Jennifer (Chris) Payne, Jonathan (Jane) Grieme, Jeffrey (Erin) Grieme, Jerod (Courtney) Grieme, David Grieme and Katie Grieme Taylor; seven great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Nelson, Jackson, Mayrn and Faith Payne, Rylee and Harper Grieme, and Peyton Grieme; two great-great-grandchildren, Layla and Andyn; two sisters-in-law, Della Grieme and Dorothy Fick; a brother-in-law, Roy Bergquist; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
