Bonnie Jean Hase, age 74, of Newell, Iowa, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Bonnie Jean Speth was born on August 3, 1937, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert Henry and Edna Anna Dora (Gleesing) Speth. She attended grade school in Schaller and Schaller High School. During that time, Bonnie played varsity basketball for four years, was a drum majorette, and participated in the school plays. She graduated at the end of the school year with the Class of 1955.

On April 20, 1956, Bonnie married George Augustus Hase at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller, Iowa. Together, they built a beautiful home on Storm Lake where they held many fun-filled family reunions. Their marriage was blessed with three children: George Paul, Glenda, and Gregory.

Throughout the late 1960's and early 1970's, Bonnie worked as a bus driver for the Storm Lake School District. She and George became assistant managers of the Cobblestone Inn of Lakeside, Iowa. Later, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, from 1985-1992 where they became apartment managers for Biltmore Properties. In 1992, they moved back to Newell, Iowa, to be closer to family and to manage the Newell Golf Course for a period of time. In Newell, Bonnie enjoyed the positions of copy editor for the B.V. Journal, morning cook for the Newell Coop Express, and cook at the Newell Good Samaritan Center. She attended Bethel Baptist Church. Her hobbies included: boating, fishing, knitting, and watching all kinds of sports. She loved and adored her family and all the time she spent with them, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Bonnie's memory include children: George Paul (Deneice) Hase, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Glenda Gale (Mike) Francis, of Lakeside, Iowa, and Gregory (Lori) Hase, of Sioux City, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Lissa (Eric) Scotland, Jaimie (Clayton) Kahle, Thaddeus (Holly) Hase, Christian “Pookie” (Mark) Taylor, Jonathon Grote, Angela (Jon) Mohr, Amanda (Blake) Johnson, Jennifer Hase, and Madison Hase; her great grandchildren: Taylor, Makenna, and Bristol Kahle, Kinsley Hase, unborn baby Scotland, Jace Taylor; and Austin Mohr; one brother, Dick (Darlene) Speth, of Bellvue, Nebraska; two sisters: Betty (Alvern “Chub”) Schoenfield, of Mesa, Arizona, and Sharon (Jim) Browning, of Early, Iowa; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, George, in March 1999.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., June 11, 2012, at Bethel Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa.
Visitation: 11:00 a.m. until service time on June 11, 2012, at Bethel Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa.
Interment: 2:30 p.m., June 11, 2012, at Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa.
