Daniel Georgeff, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Daniel “Dan” Georgeff was born on July 1, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Vanche and Helen (Tricheff) Georgeff. As a baby, Dan was baptized at the Serbian Orthodox Church in South Omaha. He graduated from South High School in 1944. During his senior year, Dan was a starter on the Omaha South High basketball team when they won the State, Intercity, and Missouri Valley league titles. He was also a letter winner on the High School baseball team and editor of the school paper.

During World War II, Dan entered into the U.S. Navy on June 20, 1944. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and attained the rank of Machine Accountant Second Class before being honorably discharged on February 24, 1955.

Dan attended Creighton University in Omaha, graduating in 1950 with a bachelor degree in Business Administration.

On September 1, 1951, he married Joanne Lee Hipple in Estherville, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: David, Darren, Jay, and Jerry.

As a faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Dan served a term as church treasurer as well as on the Lutheran Brotherhood Board. He was an advocate for Methodist Manor and was active in Via de Cristo for several years. He had a couple of good, good friends in long term care facilities whom he visited regularly.

In the 1970s, the new high school baseball field needed adequate lighting. Dan successfully petitioned the school board to obtain those lights.

Dan enjoyed traveling, making four trips to Europe to visit children who lived there. Additionally, he and Joanne spent ten winters in Texas. Over the years, Dan spent many happy hours with morning and afternoon coffee groups. More than all esle, however, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Those left to cherish Dan’s memory include his wife of sixty years, Joanne Georgeff, of Storm Lake; his children: David (Phyllis) Georgeff, Darren Georgeff, Jay (Natascha) Georgeff, and Jerry (Kim) Georgeff; his grandchildren: Justin (Grace), Jenna, Joel, Joshua, Emma, Anna, Tamara, Lukas, Ilana, and Vander Georgeff; his brother, Boris (Marie) Georgeff; his sisters-in-law: Jeanne Georgeff, Virgie (Gene) Wendland, and Marlys (James) Swanson; as well as extended family and friends.

Preceding Dan in death are his parents; his sister, Valinka Christiansen; and his brothers, Carl and George Georgeff.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., June 23, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m., June 22, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: June 23, 2012, at the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
