December 29, 1942 - May 5, 2012Barbara Sundberg, age 69, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and formerly of Sioux Rapids, died on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
The daughter of Ivan and Virginia (Bowers) Thompson, Barbara Elaine Thompson was born on December 29, 1942, at the Sioux Rapids Hospital in Sioux Rapids. Growing up, she attended Sioux Rapids Consolidated Schools, graduating from Sioux Rapids High School. Subsequently, she attended Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota.
On May 7, 1967, Barbara married Gary Sundberg. They were blessed with one son, Brett. In 1993, Barbara met a special man, Al Loebig. They would share the next fifteen happy years together until his death in 2008.
Working at various jobs over the years, Barbara was employed as a waitress, bartender, clerk, and day care provider. She loved traveling to Arizona and South Dakota and then returning to her home state, Iowa. Her membership in various card clubs as well as the Red Hat Club in both Arizona and Iowa brought great joy to her life. Her hobbies included: crocheting dolls for every season, making China dolls, creating afghans, canning, and especially cooking. Her pride and joy was her family. Barbara cherished and loved her son and grandchildren. Moreover, she loved visiting her extended family in their homes.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Brett Sundberg, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two brothers: David (Joann) Thompson, of Schuyler, Nebraska, and Mark (Candyce) Thompson, of Sioux Rapids; seventeen nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; the shared children of Al Loebig: Mike (Victoria) Loebig, of Texarkana, Arkansas, Scott (Barbara) Parsons, of Seattle, Washington; Larry Loebig, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Suzanne (David) Loebig Potratz, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; David Loebig, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; special friend, Al Loebig; and Al's son, Steve Loebig.
