Vanhoy Vangkham, age 54, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died April 22, 2012, at his home in Storm Lake.

Vanhoy Vangkham was born in Houana, Xaiyaboury, Laos, on February 2, 1958, to Pen and Kham Vangkham. He attended elementary school in Houana, Xaiyaboury, finishing the sixth grade. He married One Phathaem in Houana, Xaiyaboury, Laos, in September 1973. His family made the journey from Laos to a refugee camp in Thailand in March of 1975 and then from Thailand to the United States. They arrived in Stockton, California, on March 24, 1980, where they also raised three children. Then, they moved to Modesto, California, in 1982.

In 1982, Vanhoy, along with his family, gave his life to Christ, joining the Lao church in Modesto, California. One of his greatest achievements was the work he did to support his family. His family moved from Modesto, California, to Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1997. He worked at Tyson in Storm Lake plant from 1998 to 2012. A good head of household, a hardworking man and a friendly person, Vanhoy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Vanhoy had many hobbies. When he was not working, he enjoyed playing keyboard, fixing cars, cooking, and playing with his grandchildren, but his main priority was spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, One (53), of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children, Khamxai Vangkham (35), of Storm Lake, Iowa, Jerry Phathaem (30), of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Johnny Phatthem (29), of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his brothers, Bounmy Khamnoy (34), of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Bounthong Khamnoy (32), of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sisters, Kham Bouakhai (41), of Modesto, California, and Da Khamnoy (37), of Houana, Xaiyaboury.

Visitation: 4:00-8:00 p.m., April 27, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 4:00 p.m., April 28, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
