Clifford R. Christensen, age 85, of Alta, Iowa, died April 18, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. He was born February 4, 1927, in Rodman, Iowa, the son of J.C. and Emma (Davidson) Christensen. Baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa, he attended school in Rodman through the eighth grade.
On November 17, 1948, Cliff married Ellen Janice Harson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They were blessed with four children: Mary, Jeanine, Gary, and Sharon.
A passionate lifelong farmer, Cliff was always out driving his red tractor with a smile on his face. He farmed near Emmetsburg, in Minnesota for one year, and then near Pocahontas before they moved north of Alta in 1959 where he continued to farm. Cliff loved spending time with his family and friends. He treasured getting together with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-three years, Ellen Christensen, of Alta, Iowa; his children: Mary (Ordell) Weiland, of Alta, Iowa, Gary Christensen, of Sutherland, Iowa, and Sharon “Sue” (Larry) Grieme, of Alta, Iowa; his grandchildren: Jody (Jim) Childs, Cory (Mindy) Weiland, Tammy (Philip) Kempadoo, Ashley Christensen (Travis Miller), Whitney Christensen (Drew Dillon), Dane Christensen (Crystal Egdorf), Sara Grieme, Laura (Nate) Sanders, and Johanna Grieme; his great grandchildren: Mason Childs; Conner, Cade, and Carter Weiland; and Cara Kempadoo; his brother, Richard (Leatrice) Christensen, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his brothers-in-law: Paul Kooker, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Don (Virginia) Harson, of Hartley, Iowa; his sisters-in-law: Marion Morgan, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Lowene Heaverlo, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ruth Harson, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Carol Douglas, of Spencer, Iowa, and Nancy Glackin, of Dickens, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Emma Christensen; his daughter, Jeanine Marie Christensen; his brother, Ernest Christensen; his sisters: Margaret Willis, Dorothy Kooker, Genevieve Glynn, Mable Harms, and Florence Hutchins; his granddaughter, Piper Ellen Kempadoo; his parents-in-law, Harry and Carol (Hoke) Harson; his brothers-in-law: Robert Harson, Harold Harson, Lyle Douglas, Cecil Morgan, Vernon (Berenta) Dunham, James Heaverlo, and Alvin Glackin.
Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., April 20, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., April 21, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
