Harry J. Johnson, age 83, of Fonda, Iowa, died March 15, 2012, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Harry John Johnson was born March 13, 1929, in Marathon, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Iris (Essick) Johnson. Having been baptized as an infant, he grew up at Marathon where he attended country school. Following school, his family moved to the Jordan farm near Fonda.

On February 7, 1951, Harry married Myrna Just in Sac City, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Kathi, Deb, and Ken. Harry started farming and then later moved to town and worked as a janitor for the Fonda School. He also worked as a machinist at Nobles and Mefferds in Laurens.

Harry was a caretaker of the Cedar Cemetery in Fonda. He enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting in his earlier years. He loved feeding the squirrels outside his home, and he always had candy stashed away. Harry treasured his family, especially his grandchildren, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Kathi (Bob) Galloway, of Budd Lake, New Jersey, Deb (Bob) Davis, of Spencer, Iowa, and Ken (Stacy) Johnson, of Rockwell City, Iowa; his grandchildren: Heidi, Joe, and Amy Galloway, Ben and Brian Davis, and Colin Johnson; three great grandchildren: Caleb, Carter, and Kaylee Puckhaber; and a sister, Dorothy Hout, of Sac City, Iowa; as well as extended family and friends.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Iris Johnson; his wife, Myrna; his brothers, Allen and Darrel; his sister, Elnora Larson; and two grandchildren, Bobby Galloway and Michael Johnson.

Visitation: 2:00-4:00 p.m., March 18, 2012, at the Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., March 19, 2012, at the United Church of Christ in Fonda, Iowa.
Interment: March 19, 2012, at Cedar Cemetery in Fonda, Iowa.
