Anna Belle McKibben, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Rembrandt, Iowa, died January 12, 2012, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Anna Belle Johnson was born May 11, 1922, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Arvid and Edna (Siekmann) Johnson. On July 23, 1922, she was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Albert City, Iowa, where she was later confirmed in May of 1936.
Growing up, Anna Belle attended grade school in Albert City and then Albert City High School, graduating in 1940. Following high school, she attended Buena Vista College where she earned a Standard Elementary Teaching Certificate in 1942, after which she taught in Bradgate and Laurens, Iowa.
On January 29, 1944, Anna Belle married Clarence McKibben at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. They were blessed with four children: Cynthia Sue, Linda Jane, Guy Randall, and Karla Jean. Clarence passed away on March 28, 1973.
On January 9, 1981, Anna Belle married Anthony Mahn at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. Anthony passed away in March of 1992.
Currently a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Anna Belle was a Sunday school teacher as well as a member of the church circle and the altar guild. A member of the Merry Matrons and Stitch and Chatter, she also became a Charter member at Lake Creek.
Anna Belle enjoyed teaching and taught at Rembrandt for eleven years. She loved traveling and had a passion for reading. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting activities. She loved and treasured her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Linda (Dean) Boettcher, of Adel, Iowa, Guy Randall (Cathy) McKibben, of Rembrandt, Iowa, and Karla Fegley, of Bettendorf, Iowa; her grandchildren: Tara (Ryan) Henrichsen, of Rochester, Minnesota, Damon (Kayce) Boettcher, of Frisco, Texas, Nicole Marie McKibben, of Brookings, South Dakota, and Matthew Blake McKibben, of Rembrandt, Iowa; five great grandchildren: Noah, Ella, and Anna Henrichsen, of Rochester, Minnesota, and Landon and Dalton Boettcher, of Frisco, Texas; a brother, Waldo (Carole Peterson) Johnson, of Spencer, Iowa; and a step-brother, Norman Swanson, of Clearwater, Florida; as well as nieces; nephews; extended family; and friends.
Anna Belle was preceded in death by her parents, Arvid and Edna Johnson; her husbands, Clarence McKibben and Anthony Mahn; and one daughter, Cynthia Sue.
Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., January 15, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., January 16, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Iowa.
