February 24, 1917 - November 11, 2004

Irene Harms passed away Thursday, November 11, 2004, at Polk City at the age of 87 years, eight months, and 18 days.

Irene Marie Beckfield Harms was born February 24, 1917, in Albert City to Louis and Martha (Sievers) Beckfield. She was baptized into the Christian faith on March 25, 1917, and confirmed on March 29, 1931, at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant Township. She attended Zion Lutheran School.

On June 11, 1939, Irene married Orville Harms in Albert City. The couple settled in the Alta area in 1947. They farmed there until retiring in 1973, and then, they moved into Alta. Irene most recently resided at CLC Polk City in Polk City.

Irene loved to bake, garden, play cards and games, go for walks, and watch sports on television.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; her parents, Louis and Martha; three infant children; four brothers; and three sisters.

Irene is survived by her two sons, Lowell Harms, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Alan Harms, and his wife, Janet, of Hendersonville, North Carolina; two daughters, Colene and Raymond Staples, of Kerrville, Texas, and Jeanine and Ken Von Bon, of Granger; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four sisters.

Religious services for Irene Harms were held Monday, November 15, 2004, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta with Pastor Mark Abraham officiating. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, Storm Lake.
