Archibald C. Geisinger
March 09, 1928 - December 01, 2011

Storm Lake, Iowa

Arch Geisinger, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died December 1, 2011, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Archibald Charles Geisinger was born March 9, 1928, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He grew up on a farm north of Storm Lake and began farming with his father at an early age. In 1946, Arch graduated from Storm Lake High School and went on to Iowa State University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1950. One month after graduation, he was drafted into the Army Corp of Engineers and was stationed at Ft. Belvoir in Virginia (near Washington D.C.). Arch served as an Engineering instructor for Bridge Building and Heavy Equipment for two years during which time he met his beloved wife, Christine (Chris).

In 1952, Arch and Chris married and returned to Storm Lake. Arch went into partnership with his father, L.J. Geisinger, and brother, Harold Geisinger, raising cattle and hogs as well as growing grain.

In addition to his efforts on the farm and raising his children, Arch served on many committees and was an active member of several organizations in town. He was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, joined the Sioux City Consistory and became a Shriner, was a member of the American Society of Engineers, a charter member of the Lake Creek Country Club, and served on the Board of Trustees for both the Methodist Manor and the United Methodist Church.

Arch & Chris enjoyed spending many winters at their condo in Scottsdale, Arisona. Additionally, they travelled to Europe, Mexico, and nearly every state in the United States. Arch especially loved going to their cabin in Battle Lake, Minnesota.

Arch was a devoted father to and very proud of each of his children: Stephen (Donna) Geisinger, of Kansas City, Missouri, Elizabeth Hatch, of Lake View, Iowa, and Karen DePaepe, of Orinda, California.

Arch loved running his electric model trains, driving the “Gator,” going to local parks, and providing much entertainment for his grandchildren: Laura, John, Scott, and Thomas Geisinger; Ryan (Amanda) Kinney; Nicole and Josh Hatch; Andrew and David DePaepe; and his great grandchild, Landon Kinney. He enjoyed good jokes, socializing, participating in bridge clubs with Chris, and collecting both new and antique toy machinery.

Arch attempted to retire in 1996 only to return to farming in 1998. His true passion was agriculture, and he continued to farm until retiring again in 2006.

Arch was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence P. and Coralyn (Smith) Geisinger; and his wife, Christine Geisinger.

In memory of Arch, a memorial fund has been established. Memorials may be sent to: Stephen Geisinger -- 102 The Woodlands, Gladstone, MO 64119.
