Normal, Illinois

Marie Franzmeier, age 92, of Normal, Illinois, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Heritage Manor in Normal.

Marie Boettcher was born June 23, 1919, at the family home in Lincoln Township, Buena Vista County, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Gerke) Boettcher. On July 6, 1919, she was baptized, and on April 9, 1933, she was confirmed, both at Zion Lutheran Church by Reverend Albrecht where she remained a lifelong member.

Growing up, Marie attended country school in Grant Township until the sixth grade. She, then, finished her education at Zion Lutheran School in Grant Township.

On September 17, 1942, Marie married William (Bill) Franzmeier at the Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Reverend M.E. Dorr officiating. They were blessed with one daughter, Doris.

In 1943, Marie began farming with her husband in the Varina area. In 1951, they moved to the Albert City community where they continued to farm until Bill’s death in 1976. Following Bill’s death, Marie began working at the 3 & 71 truck stop. She later joined the food service department at Buena Vista College and worked there for eleven years until retiring in 1991 at the age of seventy-two.

Marie moved to Lakeside after leaving the farm and enjoyed caring for her home there until she moved to Lake Pointe Villa in 2007. In 2009, Marie moved to Normal, Illinois, to be closer to her daughter when her health began to fail.

Marie enjoyed baking and decorated many cakes including her daughter’s wedding cake. She loved to embroider and quilt. She made several quilts for her grandchildren and her daughter and also for her extended family. She enjoyed playing cards and loved to take care of her grandchildren. She treasured spending time with her family, especially traveling to both coasts to see her daughter and son-in-law.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Doris (Roy) Davenport, of Bloomington, Illinois; her grandchildren: Brian (Kristen) Davenport, of Bloomington, Illinois, and Andrea (Adam) Rouleau, of Black Earth, Wisconsin; her great grandchildren: Trinity Weller, Finnley Davenport, and Hunter Rouleau; four nieces; four nephews and their families; as well as other extended family and friends.
