Ruth married Floyd Myer at the Pleasant Ridge Friends Church near Glidden, Iowa, on May 3, 1950, and they were subsequently blessed with three daughters: Ruth Evelyn (Evie), Esther Joyce, and Ellen Marie. Following their marriage, Floyd and Ruth farmed near Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Utica, Illinois, before moving to Marathon in 1960. Ruth assisted Floyd on the farm and also worked as a devoted and caring nurse for seventeen and a half years at the Pocahontas Hospital. In addition to caring for her own family, Ruth was also a “second mother” to many nieces and nephews. Ruth reached out to youth in the inner city and hosted children in her home, especially a girl from Des Moines named Beverly who became a part of the Myer family. Ruth is honored as a wonderful grandmother who would do anything for her grandchildren. Also, Ruth had a very special place in her heart for her sons-in-law and loved them very much.

Ruth’s special interests included bird watching, tending to her flowers, and being a member of the Red Hat Society. Blessed with the gift of hospitality, she always welcomed everyone in her home. A talented organist, she played the organ for the Marathon Evangelical Free Church as well as serving as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. Ruth had the heart of a servant and served as a volunteer, even as a camp nurse at the Twin Lakes Bible Camp. She also served for many years on the Care Review committee at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City. On a weekly basis, Ruth would play the organ for the residents of the nursing home adding to their enjoyment. A member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Albert City, she served the church in many capacities. Ruth enjoyed spending time outdoors and helped mow the Poland Township Cemetery at Marathon.

Ruth’s life will always be honored and cherished by the members of her family which include her husband, Floyd, of Marathon; her children: Evelyn (Evie) and Greg White, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Esther and Dan Mullen, of Fonda, Iowa, and Ellen and Roger Buehler, of Odebolt, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jorgen, Bjorn, Adam, Bradley, Abby, Barry, Josiah and John; one brother, Jack Pischel, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a sister, Marjorie Musgrove, of Webster City, Iowa; nieces; nephews; other extended family and many friends.
