William (Bill) Buehler, age 82, died Friday, July 1, 2011, after a brief illness.

Bill Buehler was born October 26, 1928, to Vernon and Inez (Collenbaugh) Buehler in Odebolt, Iowa. He moved to Schaller at a very early age and grew up on the home farm northwest of Schaller.

Bill attended Eureka #5 Country School and graduated Schaller High School in 1946. Following high school graduation, Bill attended Iowa State College for two years. He always said he learned many lessons from his fellow roommates who were veterans of World War II.

In 1950, Bill entered the United States Army as a Selectee and served in Korea. Bill was honorably discharged in August of 1952.

Bill married his wife, Flo, in June of 1953. They moved to a farm southwest of Storm Lake and lived there for fifty-eight years. Bill began farming and driving school bus for Hayes Consolidated as well as working at Anderson Brass.

In 1966, he acquired an International Harvester dealership in Schaller which he operated for the next twenty-nine years. He enjoyed all of his customers in the implement business.

Bill was an active member of the Schaller community. The first president of the Schaller Lions Club, he also served as its treasurer for many years. He was a faithful board member of Faith, Hope, and Charity and the FHC Foundation. Bill was a member of the Schaller Chamber of Commerce and the Alta VFW. Even after his retirement, he helped with many Popcorn Days celebrations.

Bill had many interest and hobbies. His interests included: scuba diving, oil painting, woodworking, and mechanical repair. Bill had the privilege of diving in the South Pacific, the Caribbean, the Sea of Cortez, off Hawaii, and at the Great Barrier Reef.

We celebrate his life and gratefully thank him for his cheerful, kind, and loving manner that he shared with his family and friends.

Left to mourn his memory are his wife of fifty-eight years, Flo; his brother, Dale (Karen) Buehler, of West Des Moines, Iowa; his sisters: Marge Friedrichsen, of Schaller, Iowa, Mary (Melvin) Walton, of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Florence Desmond, of Ponoma, California; his brother-in-law, Lowell Green, of Manson, Iowa; several nieces; nephews; extended family; neighbors; former customers; and a host of friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Inez Buehler; his parents-in-law, John and Thelma Green; his brother-in-law, Don Friedrichsen; his sister-in-law, Janice Green; and his nephew, Lee Powers.
